Ryan joined Gibsons LLP in September, 2007. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2004 and spent his first two post-call years practicing aboriginal law with one of Canada's foremost constitutional law experts and then worked one year at the Ottawa office of a national law firm.
Ryan graduated magna cum laude from the Faculty of Common Law at the University of Ottawa in 2003. He received first prizes in the areas of criminal procedure and family law. On his call, Ryan was recognized by the Law Society of Upper Canada for excellence in the estate planning component of the Bar Admission Course.
Ryan's practice focuses on civil litigation, mainly in the areas of corporate-commercial law, employment law and wills and estates. In the corporate-commercial area, Ryan has represented corporations in disputes with shareholders, litigated commercial tenancy issues and acted for both large and small businesses in contract matters. In the employment law area, Ryan has acted for both employers and employees in wrongful dismissal actions and has advised companies on employment issues arising on the purchase and sale of the business. Ryan also practices in the areas of Administrative Law and related Appeal Tribunals.
Ryan has argued cases before Ontario courts (Small Claims, Superior Court of Justice) and the Federal Courts (Trial Division, Court of Appeal). He also has experience preparing written arguments for cases on appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Ryan enjoys soccer, golf, rugby and playing guitar.
